Something to Chew Upon

During World War II, a group of Italian Resistance FIghters were captured and sent to a hard labor concentation camp. There, conditions were so severe men were dying left an right. But this one, he thought outside the box. He took his water ration and actually chewed it. He took 300 bites of the liquid, crazy sounding, right? Well, what he found was that after doing this he had a good deal more energy. He didn't understand why, but the results were the results. He decided to try this with the meager rations he was given daily, 1/2 a cooked onion and a piece of bread. The resutls were even more drammatic. He found he had increased energy throughout the day. He convinced a couple friends to join him. They were reluctant but they had noticed his increase in energy. So they joined him. Well, as time went on all the rest of the captured men died, with the exception of these three. They had enough energy and resources to survive the extremely brutal working and livinng condition.

300 chews.

At the end of the war, only this man and his friends survived.

In ancient Japanese healing practice, it is said that if we are of good health and chew 50 times we will maintain good/strong physical condition. 250-300 chews is considered one way to heal from many illnesses.

Personally, I, Chef S, have adopted a practice of chewing some foods one-thousand times. The energy and sense of calm is remarkable, and when I feel a cold coming on and do this practice, the feeling passes and I get to continue with my day without the illness.

Just a thought!
